KING ICT at the Microsoft WinDays 2015

The 15th annual Microsoft WinDays conference is taking place in Umag from April 21 to 24, 2015. The conference presents news from the world of technology and business, and brings together more than 1500 participants.

This year, KING ICT is taking part in the conference as a sponsor.

At this year's conference KING ICT’s experts will give six lectures and take part in the round table. We will present solutions developed by KING ICT, based on Microsoft technologies, talk about experiences related to the implementation of particularly challenging projects and within the always interesting topic of the employee-manager relationship address the question of business success in the digital world.

Visit us at the 15th WinDays conference and hear what our experts have to say.

Schedule and summaries of lectures by experts from KING ICT:

Ivica Ivančić - Practical experience - sales and implementation of Dynamics CRM project in Mauritius (Wednesday 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., Istria 1)

We will share practical experiences in the lecture, as well as challenges and successes in implementing Dynamics CRM solutions for customer Toyota MAURITIUS Ltd. All the challenges in sales and contracting, the scope and method of implementation, and all non-design aspects of the project will be presented - the language, cultural differences, the impact of time difference and other details that are crucial for the success of our project.

Petra Franić – applied Power BI - an instant link to the newly published tenders

(Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Coral 4)

Microsoft Self-Service BI presented us with the Power Query, an Excel Add-in, now popularly called ETL ("Extract-Transform-Load") for the masses. The list of supported data sources and transformations for design, connectivity, and purification of the retrieved data is with each upgrade all the more impressive, and there is an increasing amount of data of public interest available through websites and public web services. Given that a successful business and high-quality decision making often depend on the data that is not available within the organisation, there is a clear need for a safe integration of public data from the Internet with the corporate data on the local ("on-premise") databases. In preparing such hybrid solutions a new agent called Data Management Gateway comes to help make a bypass for the disclosure of private information in the cloud...

Josip Nadih and Ivica Ivančić - The quality of the presentation of data - is the perfect cube enough?

(Thursday 2:30 a.m. - 3:15 a.m., Istria 2)

Creating reports and dashboards is an essential part of BI - which, in practice does not get enough attention in the framework of the implementation of an integrated BI solution. Models of data warehousing and OLAP nowadays regularly follow Kimball or Inmon standards so that "under the hood" everything is usually fine, but then the data is presented in thousands of shapes and colours and gives the impression of an entertaining colouring book for children rather than a source of useful information for business users. It is strange that the part which is so directly oriented to the user is neglected, i.e. that there is no standard for data visualisation. Stephen Few, Edward Tufte, and Rolf Hichert are the leading experts in this field, trying to find meaning in the forest of tables, graphs, and other elements for visualisation and it is the very work of Professor Rolf Hichert that promises the most in terms of standard-setting...

Igor Andrić - CRM 2015: News in adapting and expanding the platform

(Thursday 6:30 p.m. - 7:15 a.m., Coral 4)

The new Dynamics CRM version 2015 provides a wealth of new features not only in the user interface, but also in segments of configuration, customisation, and extension of solutions, and the presentation will focus on the most important of the above while noting the advantages and disadvantages of the new features. For example, are you interested in the new calculated fields, branching out the logic for managing processes, what’s new in the tools for defining business processes, sales hierarchy, etc.? If any of your answers are ‘yes’ then this is the lecture for you. But we will not stop there. Namely, as the icing on the cake, we will show you the possibilities of adjusting the Help system so that your CRM solution is as serious as possible.

Josip Nadih – participating in a round table on the topic: What to do with all this data?

(Friday 11:15 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Coral 5)

Dalibor Margotić - homemade portable BI tool for detecting bottlenecks and analysis of the work of the SQL Server (Friday 2:30 p.m. -3: 15 p.m., Coral 6)

The SQL Server offers about 150 DMV and DMF (Dynamic Management Views/Functions) with which one can get a lot of information on the work of the SQL Server, and detect and diagnose various problems including problematic queries and procedures. There is enough information, but how can one draw meaningful conclusions using of all this overwhelming data in order to get the complete snapshot of the operating status of the SQL Server? Power BI for Excel comes to the rescue. The lecture will show how, by using the T-SQL, Power Pivot, and other Power BI add-ins one can make a simple yet powerful BI tool for monitoring and analysing the operations of the SQL Server which in 10 minutes can be configured to work with any production SQL Server...

Ivan Pavić - Can the Entity Framework support the Enterprise?
(Friday, 3:30 p.m. - 4:15 p.m., Coral 6)

We’ve been encountering the Entity Framework (EF) for over five years and still recognise rookie mistakes, which are then attributed to the Framework as deficiencies, regardless of the fact that a large number of experts now recommend it as one of the leading ORM tools. The presentation will cover some of the design pattern, good and bad examples from the practice of development using the EF with a special focus on the Domain Driven Design (DDD) - as the recommended practice for the development of enterprise LOB solutions. We will focus on the most common problems in the development of the N-Layer architecture - from selecting the layer to accommodate the EF, a pattern such as the Repository, Unit of Work, the concept of Bounded DbContext and the work with disconnected object graphs. The lecture is intended for .NET developers and software solution architects, and we are looking forward to our meeting with colleagues who “got burned" in attempts to work or are not yet convinced of the possibilities of using the EF in the development of Enterprise Solutions.
